You hit the nail right on the head! Until you’ve worked through those past traumas that form who we are and why we do the things we do you’ll never truly be at peace. I know I’m not there yet but wouldn’t be where I am today without some really great therapy sessions that helped me understand what formed who I am how to work through those past events that brought me to where I am and also how to cope in my everyday life then and now. It’s been the best gift I could ever give myself.

You hit the nail right on the head! Working with a therapist to determine who you are and why might not be easiest at first but in the end will be the best gift you could give yourself. Working through those past traumas that have formed who we are today finding out why and healing the effects they may have had on you is so important. I know I wouldn’t be who I am today without my sessions.
Gina, I am glad you were able to resonate with this post. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment! Don’t forget to share this with family and friends!

Yes I do! I write poetry and take relaxing bubble baths with a nice candle going that’s my happy place. Great ideas by the way I will definitely incorporate some of these into my self care routine.
This is all excellent advice. I like the fact that you stressed it’s better to clean a diaper right away rather than wait. Plus, giving a bath when they have a blowout is important.

Great Post!. waking up early before the kids is one of the most crucial tips for having a productive day. On some days its hard but you keep pushing through, and soon it becomes a stress free routine
I love that you included the tip to get up before your kids. I find that to be so helpful. It gives me a moment to myself before it becomes all about the kids.
Love this post! It’s so important to go a little further and do a little extra for yourself in winter, otherwise you’ll feel trapped inside and bored the whole time. Thanks for all these ideas!
This is such a great post! As someone who suffers from anxiety as well as digestive issues, understanding how the food I’m feeding myself ultimately affects me is huge. Food is fuel.. knowing these details is so important!
Although I’m not a SAHM any more, I definitely found some ideas I can tell my hubby to get me. I always draw a blank when he asks what I want for Christmas lol
Such a great gift guide! I love the weighted blanket. Adding that to my shopping list. I LOVE shower steamers! Thanks for the reminder it has been a while since I’ve had some. Have a great day! – Setitra

Such a well-written and well-researched article! Thank you for sharing. I’m looking forward to your follow-up as to how to deal with repressed childhood trauma as an adult.
Great article. Childhood trauma can manifest into so many different types of adult issues. I think I suffer from 5 of those mentioned myself 😅But lots of great info here. Thanks for sharing.
I didn’t realize that it compares to smoking so much! As an introvert, making friends is so hard. Thanks for talking about this subject.

Enlightening post, I’m surprised that the millennials are such a big part of the lonely group. I guess they’re looking for friendship in a phone…that’s just not going to happen.
Hugs are a power heal too that we have to offer and often we don’t do. Especially this pandemic time we all need a hug. My birthday this year I didn’t get like how I wanted. 😭
I’ve always found hugs to be so comforting. While we can’t exactly hug or close friends in the current times, I make a point to give my mom a hug everyday. (We live in the same household)

Good post! I was a stay-at-home and homeschooling mom back in the 80s and 90s. It’s a lot of work for sure! I loved it, though. My kids were pretty well-behaved, and their dad took them out to play or hike or something when he got home from work. We worked it out fine.
We sure need a break! I always wake up before the kids and enjoy my morning coffee peacefully . That’s usually the only break I get. I need more! Great article!
Great tips but gosh, it is hard when you are TTC. Everything you think about relates back to that one topic. I felt you on buying way too many pregnancy tests. Those things are pricey!!
Thanks for sharing this! Absolutely agree with you, and I wish that every single soon to be Momma out there will have the opportunity to have a proper prenatal care.
There are so many great ideas here. Now that my kids are teens, I think a vacation is a great gift. I only have a few more years to force them to travel with me. I could also get them some travel gifts to open, like a neck pillow and travel-size toiletries.
Thank you for this post! As a mom of a tween and teen it is great to have ideas of what to get them as they move away from the toy phase. I have been on the fence about getting them weighted blankets but I would like to see their quality of sleep improve but your post has convinced me to invest 🙂
These are such great ideas! We get so many toys from others for our children on their birthdays so we always like to get non-toy gifts for our daughters!
I absolutely love the idea of non toy gifts for kids. Gifting them experiences like memberships for educational experiences is the gift that gives all year long. I also really like the colored pencil case…great for using at home or travel! Thanks for these great gift ideas for kids!
Outside equipments are a great way to get the kids out of the house.

Bringing home a cute pet is a lovely gift for children. Really helps with their personal growth, and they learn so many things about compassion and taking care of others. It can be wonderful watching the two grow together. Love the other items on your list too.

Awesome suggestions! It’s a great idea to give a gift that’s not a toy, it sparks creativity and turns into a gift that keeps on giving. Where kids can get more use out of it. Thank you for sharing this great list!
This is such a great list!! So often we buy toys because it’s the norm but kids end up with SO many. I love the idea of giving other things and not just toys!

This is such a great post! You’re so right in how important asking for help is, and avoiding burnout! I don’t have children yet but I can absolutely see why people would feel they have to do it all themselves which doesn’t help anyone!

This is the perfect list of things to do to get into the Christmas spirit – love it! I can’t wait to decorate cookies with my toddler this year. She was too y young last year!
Wow, I would have a hard time choosing between these bags. They are all very stylish and functional. Wishing diaper bags were this nice back in the day when my kiddos were little.
I love this post. It was straight to the point with great suggestions. From experience being a full time mom is no joke. I’m glad there’s so much research such as this to help other mothers. From the outside many least know what entails the inside. Great work!

I love my toddler schedule so much! It really makes a huge difference not just for me, but for her too. You have some great tips on why they are so important. Thanks for sharing!
I think routines and schedules are so important to all ages for kids! I have learned this with my elementary aged kids that the day goes so much better when there is a routine and they know what to expect.
90% of the time i am not lonely but 10% of the time i am. Having social anxiety and not liking people is my problem. I have to try and these tips may help me. Thank you
My youngest just got done with kindergarten last year. This is all sound advice 🙂 If I would add anything, teach them that it’s okay to ask for help. My daughter still has such a hard time with that and thinks it is a sign of weakness or embarrassment for some reason!
These are amazing tips! My niece is heading off to kindergarten this fall. I’ll be sure to send this to my sister-in-law to read. I know she’ll appreciate the great skills and tips!
As a fellow mental health professional I appreciate all of your suggestions. Teaching a child to be self-sufficient and independent before they start school helps them feel more confident! Thanks for the great tips!
This is a great and concise guide that I think . I’m fortunate that my mother and grandmother were educators who prepared me well for Kindergarten, and provided me with ample opportunities to develop motor and social skills prior to entering into academic life. As an arts educator, I would say that this is where early exposure to arts and culture can pay great dividends too, as the arts help young children to build strong motor skills and learn to express themselves both verbally and non-verbally.
Yes to all of this! Also teach independence in bathroom and don’t send them in things they can’t button/unbutton by themselves. This creates so much anxiety for students and causes avoidable accidents. Make sure they know their real name and will answer to it not “booger” “monkeybutt”, etc. Practice 20 minutes lunch because that is STRESSFUL to children especially those who are used to being able to graze all day. Most importantly teach them to be kind. School should be a positive experience for all.
I really appreciate how you bring up the crucial topic of children understanding their private parts. In today’s world, where some unscrupulous individuals might try to exploit innocent kids, it’s absolutely essential for them to be aware of what abuse is and to never stay silent about it. It’s our responsibility to ensure they have the knowledge and confidence to protect themselves and speak up if something isn’t right. Let’s continue raising awareness about this important issue and keeping our children safe!
These are really solid tips for preparing for kindergarten. I especially like the idea to visit the school they will be attending a few weeks before they start school. This is great!

I couldn’t agree more with this post! My son just started kindergarten. It’s already a tough transition. If you don’t prepare them, they are going to struggle even more.
I find that teaching kids their parents’ names and home addresses are also important! So that in case smth happens, there’s always a way to find home. Helpful post! Thanks!!!
As a former daycare center owner, everything you shared is so important. Children need to be prepared to spend time away from parents and meeting new people.
These are wonderful tips. It is helpful for the children to open milk cartons and other food packages independently, as the lunch monitors have their work cut out for them during the Kindergarten lunch period! Also, if you get the school supply list over the summer, stick to the items on the list, as the teachers know what items are truly needed and/or will fit in the space each child is provided. I’ve seen some near-tears from my 5th graders when they realize all the extra supplies they bought won’t fit in their desks, so I can imagine how the little ones would react if this happened to them.
It’s great that you talked about getting help with labor, birth, and parenting. My sister announced she’s having a baby on her own because her fiance abandoned her last night. My family is a wreck but is happy about the baby’s arrival, and everyone wants to help my sister. I’ll suggest we start by making an appointment with a prenatal care specialist for my sister next week.
I love these ideas! It’s so hard getting kids to talk about their days sometimes. I love the ideas especially of asking if they did something nice, such a great way of subtly encouraging kids to give back as well.
My family is a wreck but is happy about the baby’s arrival, and everyone wants to help my sister. I’ll suggest we start by making an appointment with a prenatal care specialist for my sister next week.
Great ideas and things that are important. Having someone’s company is important and we need to work on it.
I like this list because i ask my kids so many of these questions to get them to talk! lol
Ok, I want say I LOVE this post, because always great to check with kids after school. Thank you for sharing!
I love these questions. So perfect for the new school year and connecting at the end of the day 🩷
I love these ideas! It’s so hard getting kids to talk about their days sometimes. I love the ideas especially of asking if they did something nice, such a great way of subtly encouraging kids to give back as well.
