No matter the season, having toys in your backyard for the kids is always important, but now that summer is upon us; it’s time to start getting the yard ready for a fun and exciting summer for the kids after a cold winter and long school year.

The kids will be out of school for the next three months, that’s a long time. And since we don’t want them sitting in front of the television all summer long, we need to make plans on how to keep them active and engaged this summer. I am going to share some fun and exciting toys to set up in your yard that will keep the kids entertained all summer long.

Must-Have Backyard Toys For Kids

Wooden Kid’s Art Easel:

The easel displayed below is the perfect creative way for your kiddo to have fun this summer, especially if you have an artistic child in your hands. I like that this easel is made of sturdy wood and is adjustable for different heights.

Your child can use this easel to color, draw and paint their own art. This easel will grow with your child and encourage them to draw more. Did I also mention that this easel can be used indoors for quiet time?

A Wooden Swing Set:

Outdoor play is super important for babies, toddlers, and kids alike. Being outside provides your child with fresh air and creates a space for creative play, essential for building your child’s imagination.

Above all, outdoor play keeps your child active and helps develop their motor skills! Climbing, sliding, and swinging are great ways to help your child develop and hone their physical abilities. While it’s exciting to have a playset in your backyard, please remember that safety comes first.

Because dirt and grass are too hard, it is crucial to have some material such as mulch or rubber on the ground of your backyard that has shock-absorbing abilities and can prevent injuries like head injuries if your child ends up falling.

A Mud Kitchen:

Mud kitchens are a backyard and playground staple. As dirty and messy as playing in the mud may sound, there are many benefits. According to Kids Do: Gardening letting your kids play in the mud is a great way to expose them to various bacteria that are needed to help build their immune system.Playing in the mud can also be good for your child’s mental health as it triggers the release of serotonin, a neurotransmitter known for regulating and boosting mood, establishing good sleeping patterns, and helping in preventing depression.

A Kiddie Pool:

A small portable outdoor kiddie pool is the perfect way to add extra fun to your kid’s summer. Although this kiddie pool is small, your child can still drown. Please always pay close attention when your kiddos are in the pool. It is also necessary to clean and sanitize the kiddie daily to prevent bacteria buildup. Here’s how to clean your kiddie pool safely.

Kid’s Outdoor Picnic Table:

Having a picnic table in your backyard this summer will be invaluable. Your kids can use it for arts and crafts or to eat breakfast and lunch! I recommend purchasing one with an umbrella to protect your kiddos from the harshness of the sun.

An Outdoor Playhouse:

An outdoor playhouse is a gem! It is a fun way to encourage your kids to spend more time outside and play. Your kiddos will enjoy having an outdoor playhouse no matter how old they are. Having an outdoor playhouse promotes creative and imaginative play. This is just a fun way for your child to improve their innovative skills and develop new ones.Kids Water Table:

The summertime is the perfect time for your kids to use a water table. It keeps them cool and engaged outside for hours! A water table can also be educational, as it promotes unstructured and independent play.

An Outdoor Trampoline:

And, of course, a trampoline! What would your backyard be without one?! A trampoline doesn’t only provide hours of fun in your own backyard; it is a sure way to get your kids outside and active this summer. Jumping on a trampoline strengthens your child’s bones and improves muscle development.

Bouncing on a trampoline is also good for your mental health. It increases the circulation of oxygen in your body, encouraging the release of the happy hormone endorphins.

A Sprinkler/ Splash Pad:

A splash pad or sprinkler is another fun way to keep the kiddos cool this summer, especially on hot days. A splash pad is fun for kids of all ages, and mom and dad can also get involved in the fun!

A few other small items that your child will most likely put to good use are:

You don’t need all of these items in your backyard for your kids to have an enjoyable summer. But having one or two of these backyard toys for kids will definitely make a difference.
