Fall is by far one of my favorite times of the year and one of the most exciting seasons. With the tree leaves turning color, sweater and hot chocolate weather coming in, and daylight getting shorter, there are so many things to do in the fall and so much to explore before the cold winter months arrive. 

This time of year is the perfect time to engage in both indoor and outdoor activities that you can only do during the fall season.

Similarly, the fall season is my favorite because it offers lots of fun, family-friendly activities that keep you and your family moving all season long! 

With many activities to add to the fall bucket list, it can be challenging to know where to start. I have compiled a list of 70 things to do with your family this fall season, and trust me; you won’t want to miss out on any of these favorite fall activities.

70 Family-Friendly Things To Do in the Fall

  1. Take family photos outdoors: The most astonishing part about fall is the changing colors of the leaves from trees that were once green to yellow, red, orange, and brown. With the beautiful scenery created by the many different colors of shedding leaves, this time of year is the perfect time to take family photos for any occasion, even for Christmas. 
  2. Decorate your home for the season: With the captivating warm fall colors, there are many directions to go in when decorating your home. And with the colored leaves, pinecones, and acorn, there’s no better time to take on a DIY home decor project. 
  3. Rake and jump in piles of leaves: Make yard work fun by involving the kiddos. Encourage them to help you rake the leaves with the perk of jumping into the leaf piles right after! 
  4. Go on a nature walk in the late evening with a lantern: Now that daylight is getting shorter, it’s easy to put your favorite sweater on and go for a walk right after dinner. Make fun and interesting by using a lantern. I am sure your kiddos will love that. This nature walk can easily turn into a mindfulness activity. Notice your surroundings, the animals, and the different sounds they’re making. Notice the cool crisp autumn air blowing by your face and how it makes you feel.
  5. Attend a harvest festival: There are plenty of celebrations going on this time of year. Choose one that suits your family and have a great time!
  6. Take a trip to a pumpkin patch: Visiting a pumpkin patch is a classic fall activity that will never go out of style. It gives the kids an opportunity to explore and ask questions about pumpkins and other foods that grow on vines.
  7. Visit an Apple Orchard/ Go apple picking: Apple picking is another pastime activity that is greeting to keep the kids active and create bonding opportunities for families and friends. Taking a trip to an Apple Orchard gives your kids the chance to learn about the many health benefits of apples.
  8. Bake pumpkin everything: Tis’ the season for pumpkin everything! Bake pumpkin pies, bread, donuts, and even pancakes! Even better if you also bake something for your neighbor!
  9. Visit your local farm/Visit a farmer’s market: Fall is known as the season of Harvest. Support your local farm by visiting them throughout the Fall and purchasing common fall harvests like apples, beets, grapes, corn, and pumpkin. 
  10. Collect leaves: Leaves come in many shapes, colors, and sizes. Identify leaves and sort them by color, shape, and size: Explore the changing colors and various properties.
