Like every parent, I am sure you would like to find ways to get a better idea of what’s going on at your child’s school. Well, asking your child specific questions can help to do just that. Here are some questions to ask your kids after school to get a better description of what happened in school that day.

When my daughter first started going to school, I would ask her “How was school?” and she would normally tell me about her day, but I find that I get a more accurate description of her day when I ask more specific questions.

When I pick her up from school now, I do a couple of things, I hug and kiss her, and when we get to the car I hand her a snack, she buckles up and we start chatting about her day.

The ride home is about 15 minutes long. Every day I choose 2-3 questions to ask her as a conversation starter about her day at school. Sometimes, she’s tired and doesn’t feel like talking much but at least I get the information I need from the 2-3 questions I ask her. And of course, depending on the day, the questions lead to other questions, which is even better.

You too can use these questions as conversation starters with your kids after school!
