December is the jolliest month of the year. There is no shortage of exciting things to do in December. You just have to ensure you have enough energy to engage in all of these fun festivities.

Whether you are looking for things to do with your family, friends or your kids, this list of things to do in December is for anyone looking for ways to stay engaged and create excitement this holiday and winter season.

1) Learn about the birth of Jesus Christ: Christmas is about celebrating the birth of the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. Open the Bible to Matthew chapter 2 and read about the story of Mary being pregnant with Jesus.

2) Put up your Christmas tree: If you did not get a chance to put up your Christmas tree the day of or after Thanksgiving, now is the time to do it. If you want to make the most out of your Christmas tree and enjoy it for as long as deemed socially acceptable, then it’s now or never. 

3) Bring out the red and green: It’s December which means your favorite colors are red and green. That’s all the colors you need to be wearing this month.

4) Decorate your home (indoor and outdoor) for the season: It’s time to start putting up the Christmas lights, both indoor and outdoor. I dare you to be the most festive house on your block.

5) Start using an advent calendar: Start the countdown to Christmas by using an advent calendar. An advent calendar is an exciting and fun way to look forward to Christmas.

6) Visit your town’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony: I love Christmas tree lighting ceremonies. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. People from all over the city usually attend, it’s a really special time for the whole community.

7) Attend a church service: They have so many activities going on in the church in the month of December. Attend a service and see if you like it. You’ll get a chance to meet great people who love Jesus.

8) Set a New Year resolution: The New Year is creeping in, and it’s to reflect about this past year and set new goals for the upcoming New Year that will help you to be productive in your life.

9) See a Broadway Musical show: The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol are favorites this time of year.

10) Take your kids to see Disney On Ice: I took my kids to see Disney On Ice and they had the most amazing time. If you have kids, they might enjoy it too!

11) Take a tropical vacation: Baby it’s cold outside! If ever there was a time to take a tropical vacation, December is that time, considering the type of cold weather this month brings.

12) Drink lots of hot chocolate: My toddler son loves hot chocolate and drinks it all year round, but December is the perfect time and weather to drink hot chocolate. It’s a nice way to stay warm after you’ve been outside shoveling the snow.

13) Create a Christmas playlist: I love Christmas music so much that I start listening to it in November! To create a playlist, I go on Spotify. Search for Christmas music and heart the songs I like and, voila! my very own Christmas playlist.

14) Bake all the cookies: December 4th is National Cookie Day! Use this day to bake all the cookies your heart desires. And don’t forget to drop off a batch to a neighbor.

15) Decorate the heck out of those cookies: Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without decorated cookies.

16) Plan to have a cookie exchange: Pretty much everyone is baking cookies this time of year, why not make it fun? Arrange a cookie exchange party with family and close friends.

17) Take family Christmas photos: It’s about that time you schedule your family photo shoot since you’ll need pictures for your Christmas cards.

18) Send out Christmas cards: Receiving physical Christmas cards in the mail during the holiday season is so special, especially since everything is online now.

24) Donate winter clothes: My church is always collecting winter apparel such as jackets, gloves, hats and scarfs for a designated shelter this time of year.

25) Volunteer at a soup kitchen: Give back to your community by volunteering at your local soup kitchen. This gives you a chance to get to know the people who live in your town.

26) Make a Christmas Wreath: Get creative and use your imagination to create a Christmas wreath.  

27) Drive around to look at Christmas lights: This is my absolute favorite thing to do in December. People put so much effort and work into decorating their home, our job is to drive around to look at them. 

28) Prepare your home for snow: Snow is inevitably coming, be ready to deal with it by purchasing a snow blower or shovel, ice melt, and remember to change your tires if you need to before a severe snow storm.

29)Finish up your holiday shopping: You probably got your Christmas shopping done on Black Friday weekend but, if you still have more shopping to do, don’t wait until the last minute because that never works out.

30) Winter is here: Get excited because December 21st is the official day of winter!

31) Read Christmas books: Christmas books truly capture the magic of celebrating Christmas. 

32) Go Ice Skating: Some of us have been waiting for winter to ice skate. Don’t waste precious time and put on those skates.

36) Eat Christmas candy: A candy cane, or a piece of snowman shaped chocolate, enjoy!

37) Host a Christmas dinner: Take pleasure in hosting a nice Christmas dinner with family and close friends on the Eve of Christmas.
